You want to start investing in the stock market, and you need to learn how to do it. Great! Now what?
A Short Investing Guide will teach you how to think about the stock market, how to invest at the most basic level, and how to invest if you want to get more advanced.
This guide will not make you rich, or sell you on fast money, or on excitement and fun. Good investing takes time. It comes with no promises. It is often boring. (Investing, not this guide, I hope!)
Investing works because you are saving money and adding to your investments regularly, and then letting those investments compound over decades.
A Short Investing Guide will help you understand why that works and how you can do start that process. It will also build you a toolbox in case you want to take more control of that investing process.
Learning to invest: A Short Investing Guide course outline
You’ll find the following courses on the website and on our Youtube Channel:
- How To Start Investing
- How to Buy a Stock (In progress)
- How to Build a Stock Portfolio (to come)
- How to Track, Hold, and Sell Stocks (to come)
- Valuing Stocks (to come)
- Market Lessons – General Topics (to come)
I hope to add a new video each week. At that pace, we will ‘complete’ the guide in about a year. New topics and questions will come up meanwhile, so you can expect the courses and materials to evolve. You can see the current planned table of contents.
This guide aims to be evergreen, meaning it will not focus on telling you what’s happening in the stock market in 2023, or what will happen in 2024 or 2030 or 2040, or what happened in 2020 or 2021 or 2008 or 2005. I want you to learn about investing in the stock market for years and decades, not days and months.
We will reference current events, and I will mention stocks I own, but only as examples that illustrate the longer-term topics. I may develop a podcast or video to talk about current market events, but only within the long-term perspective that is vital to investing success.
All of this is to say, you can expect each topic to be covered in a video and an accompanying article. The articles will often include references or resources for you to go further. We will build a resources page and update the contents page as new posts go up and if I make any changes to the guide design.
